Congratulations on the 49th annual session of KAO! I am very glad for KAO to held it in Seoul COEX, the premium convention center in the world. Thanks to the tremendous endeavor of organizing committee, it will be very successful. And also I believe the honored doctors attending this prestigious meeting to be fully content with the lectures and exhibitions organized very well.
Q Congratulations on being the key speaker of special lectures in 49th annual session of Korean Association of Orthodontists. Please let us know what you feel about that.
Because I have been working for KAO for twenty two years, I really know well how KAO congress select the key speakers. It is very hard to be invited as key speakers of KAO, for the level of members in academic and clinical aspect is very high. I am very honored to be one of key speakers of KAO annual session. I think it is my privilege to present my cases and mechanics.
Q What is the topic?
Keys to solve the crux of orthodontic problems.
Q why do you choose that topic?
As many doctors understand, Seoul National University Dental Hospital is the final destination of problem cases in Korea. It is my daily job to think out the ways how to solve the problems and how to treat challenging cases. By using mini-implants and plates, many problem cases were treated well. I would like to share the experience with my audience.
Q Please describe clinical implications of your lecture in brief.
Several skeletal anchorage systems were introduced to orthodontic field. If they are divided into two categories: Screw and plate types. They have influenced not only on the mechanics but also on the final results of our treatments. This lecture will introduce the problem cases which were treated by using the skeletal anchorage. The cases will include 1) Open bite and TMD, 2) Root resorption, 3) Ankylosed tooth, and 4) Other challenging cases.
Q We Korean orthodontists have great achievement especially in the field of TAD, lingual orthodontics, surgical orthodontics and so on. What do you think about the present position and the future possibility of Orthodontics in Korea?
I think Korean orthodontics has led the world orthodontic trend since the early 2000. If it is combined with Korean IT and high techniques in materials, the future will be more brilliant in many field, esp. in computerized 3D appliances and techniques.
Q Please let us know your future plan in your researches shortly.
My research will be focused on the open bite and TMD. Especially, the long-term stability of these problem cases is my interested field.
Q What is your favorite thing about Korea?
As a Korean, I would like to recommend foreign doctors to experience the Korean culture as much as possible; dynamics, hospitality, and foods.
