“Common interest will strengthen our fellowship”

It is my great pleasure to welcome all participants of the 2021 WIOC and KAO meeting.

The history of the World Implant Orthodontic Conference dates back to the year 2002, when the first Asian Implant Orthodontic Conference was held in Seoul, Korea, which initiated the academic activities in the clinical use of bone-borne anchorage devices in the clinical orthodontics.

The pioneers of the implant orthodontics in the east Asian countries have dedicated to broaden the scope of orthodontic treatment and to benefit the patients with breakthrough treatment modalities. Renowned orthodontists in the world also developed the emerging concepts which facilitated the organization of the first World Implant Orthodontic Conference held in Seoul, Korea, in 2008, with great success.

Thereafter, the evidence-based new treatment philosophies spread all over the world via the annual world meeting. It has been 20 years’ journey and still the World Implant-Orthodontic Association is characterized as a unique academic orthodontic association which specializes in the field of implant-orthodontics.

These days, the WIOA spirit is combined with latest technology such as digital diagnosis and treatment, virtual reality and 3D printing, continuing this activity. It is very unfortunate that due to the COVID19 pandemic. However, I am very sure that our common interest will strengthen our fellowship.
